Dharun Ravi supporters gather at State House to rally for a light sentence

As many as 200 protestors peacefully gathered outside the New Jersey State House today, upset by the possible harsh sentence that may await the convicted Dharun Ravi. The protestors carried signs that said, “Justice - Not Vengeance,” “Muddled Law Applied,” and “Don’t Make Dharun Ravi Our Anti-Gay Scapegoat.”

Mercer County hosts Jersey’s first-ever conference on LGBT aging Issues

An aging conference for LGBT seniors in New Jersey came just in time for many. It was organized by the Mercer County Department of Human Services and held at the beautiful Mercer County College Conference Center on Friday, April 20. It was a full day of presentations on issues ranging from sexuality for seniors through care-giving problems, financial planning and anti-gay discrimination.

Sentencing scheduled in Tyler Clementi webcam case

Sentencing for Dharan Ravi, the man convicted in the Tyler Clementi Rutgers University webcam case, is scheduled for May 21, 2012. Prosecutors in Middlesex County are requesting that Mr. Ravi get prison time, but not the maximum, which is ten years. Mr. Ravi who is Indian, but grew up in the United States, also faces possible deportation. Ravi's defense lawyer has asked for the minimum - probation, and is appealing the verdict.

Prom night for LGBT youth celebrated in gay style in Jersey City.

Over 40 LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning) youth and allies turned out for their first "gay prom" in Jersey City on May 4. The high school and college students, ages 16-25, were treated to live entertainment, the music of DJ Jiminii, dinner and non-alcoholic beverages, and a dancing contest.

Garden State Equality seeking teams and sponsors for "Equality Walk"

Garden State Equality (GSE) will have an Equality Walk to help raise funds and visibility on Saturday, June 23 in Montclair. In an email GSE's Steven Goldstein emphasized the importance of the walk this year saying, "It could not come at a more crucial time." He stated that they have layed the groundwork to achieve marriage equality through an override of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie's veto.
