Ruthie J is like any other college student; she likes to party, drink and occasionally engage in casual sex with men and women.  She also has her sights set on becoming a doctor; except she has been diagnosed with epilepsy and in1963, epilepsy was considered to be a mental illness. After a bizarre car accident, Ruthie’s family admits her to a mental hospital called Chestnut Lodge, where a sadistic psychiatrist threatens to make her a lifer. Ruthie endures horrible treatments such as being wrapped in ice-cold sheets, a treatment at the time for unruly patients.
